Wireless Access
Free wireless access is available in most areas of the library. All you need is a laptop with a wireless card and a network connection configured for DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). Library cards are not required. If needed, electrical outlets are available in many locations.
Printing to one of the library's printers is not currently available with wireless access.
If you have problems accessing the wireless internet, your laptop may have fixed or "static" network settings. This often occurs on computers configured for use in a company or campus network. The properties for the Internet Protocol network setting for the network adaptor need to be set for "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically." Be sure to note the current settings before making any changes. Laptops configured for company or campus use may also use VPN (Virtual Private Network); please disable this setting for wireless access. You might want to check with your company or campus technology staff if you have further questions.
If the connection works, but some web sites and utilities are not available, it may be due to our filter. To comply with state law, Saline District Library has chosen to filter all terminals with monitors that might be visible to minors. For that reason, wireless access is also filtered. We have made every effort to enable access to various requested utilities, but there may still be unavailable sites. |
