OI! Picture books for teens? Oh, yes! I always remind people that you never get too old for a great picture book. And lots of authors and illustrator/artists are recognizing that teens are the perfect audience. What is Punk is my favorite in the YA Picture Book genre…..I’d say collection, but I am keeping them with our Teen Graphic Novels for now.
What is Punk? This is the single best primer for anybody who is interested in the music or history of the punk rock movement of the 1970s and 1980s. Starting with punk’s roots in NYC (the sonic revolution at Max’s and CBGB), the Detroit sound, and anarchy in the UK, the book explores the main players, including the Ramones, Iggy and the Stooges, and the Sex Pistols. As punk gained a wider audience, the scene spread to the West Coast and DC, and influenced many of the genres of music today.
The art work of this book is simply phenomenal! Claymation figures of punk icons are uncannily realistic. The text is fun, witty, and spirited. Akashic Books never steer me wrong, and this one is an absolute WINNER!
Hey Ho! Let’s GO!
